Today I discovered Dro.pt. Dro.pt is a brand new and exciting platform which is ‘changing the way fashion brands launch their collections online’. It is a very significant step up from the likes of Pinterest and Polyvore – Dro.pt not only encourages users to engage and share their newest fashion finds, but also allows them to buy products directly from the site. This new fashion platform looks to become an essential tool for Brands, Retailers and Stylists alike. Users following a Brand or Retailer via Dro.pt can have first access to shiny new lines as they are released. With the creators claiming it is ‘PR, Sales and Marketing all in one’ – it seems to be one to watch! Check out the beautifully created demo here.

I’ve always admired businesses with an eco-friendly focus, mainly for their ethics but also for the gorgeously organic branding which often comes with them. Manchester based Web Design company We Are Life have created the branding and website for the beautiful and innovative Natural Wedding Company. Now 5 years old the company is run by Charlie, a newlywed originally from the Cotswolds whose passion for weddings and the environment has resulted in a fantastic resource for a big day with a small price tag. The website features links to hand picked businesses specialising in all things wedding. The common themes between the likes of stationary company Wedding In A Teacup and Cake Boutique Airyfairy Cupcakes is the handmade creativity with a sprinkle of eco friendly production. The website features a natural and neutral colour palette, stunning illustration and quirky typography which conveys the personality of the Natural Wedding Company perfectly. I particularly like the blog which is jam packed with creative ideas. More gorgeous visuals can be found by following the Natural Wedding Company on Pinterest pinterest.com/naturalwedding

The gorgeous iL2L brand offers a huge range of products which make perusing the website an ideal shopping experience – it’s the perfect place for that special gift or a spot of indulgence! From journals to wash bags this brand is at the forefront of style…but their true expertise is in leather jackets. The brand have made leather jackets for men and women for over 40 years. There are a variety of styles on offer including pleather, biker, bomber and asymmetric. My personal favourite is the Barneys Black Label Women’s Asymmetric Collarless Leather – a bit of a mouthful but the perfect finish to any outfit. I love it when I find a gorgeous new brand which isn’t at all expensive! Besotted Brand was established in 2009 and has a dreamlike quality to it’s products and presentation. The small business sells beautiful stamps, paper, labels and prints which are hand crafted and bespoke if you so wish! The neutral colours of the products would suit any workspace and there is something magical about the personal touch which clearly goes into each carefully thought out design. I particularly like the stamps! Besotted Brand also has  a blog worth a very thorough read! For further information visit the website at besotted brand.com.

I am very excited to be visiting the about-to-open Jamie Oliver restaurant in Manchester this week! I can’t wait to see the interior design and I’m hoping the restaurant branding won’t be too far removed from the gorgeous Jme packaging range! I’ve always admired this range in passing and while explaining the values of the ‘hand made’ branding look to a colleague I stumbled upon Pearlfisher – the award winning design company behind Jamie Oliver’s latest designs. In 2009 Pearlfisher won the Gold Cannes Lion Award as a result of this outstanding creative. At a time in design when vintage and organic are everywhere the homemade approach seems a very straightforward and inexpensive solution to a design brief such as Jamie Oliver’s that calls for health, homeliness and affordability. However, few brands get it right as there is a fine line between unique and childlike. I have fallen in love with Pearlfisher as it has a clear ability to create simple and effective branding. While it has been hugely successful with the likes of household names such as Green&Blacks, Cadburys Dairymilk and Yeo Valley – my favourite work it that of Food Doctor, Eat and This Water. For further information check Pearlfisher out at www.pearlfisher.com.

Brand new Fashion and Lifestyle magazine Style Etc has recently launched with some stunning photography and fashion shoots. I’ve been lucky enough to interview the very bubbly and talented Manchester based freelance make up artist Hayley Stott about her work on Style Etc and other projects!

Wow! You have worked on many top fashion shows in your 5 year career – which was your favourite?
My favourite would have to be the J Model Management fashion show in 2010, it was manic! Lots of waiting around, rehearsals, cups of tea and then BANG! Mayhem!!! Models ripping their clothes off, dashing about, and of course I got to see lots of toned male torsos! Phew!

What was your best project of 2011?
‘The Future is sexy’ for Noir Magazine. It was my first published shoot and I loved everything about it! The model was caked in make-up although you can’t really tell in the photographs – it gave me the chance to put my contouring skills to the test. It was also the first time I got to meet the fantastic Siobhan Cooper who I now work with on a regular basis for Style Etc Magazine.

What is your dream make-up job or 2012?
My dream job would be to work in London Fashion week or for Kim Kardashian to call me up to go and do her famous smokey eyes for her!

Your make-up style is gorgeously bold and has a very unique feel. Where did this style come from?
It’s come from me being a perfectionist and liking everything to look symmetrical. My father used to do freehand technical drawings for his degree and I would watch him all the time. He taught me to be precise and think in a balanced way so I guess that’s where I get it from. I’m one of those people who puts people’s pictures straight in their houses when they’re not looking! I love bold strong looks as they reflect my personality.

Who is your make-up icon?
My make-up icon, cliche as it sounds would have to be the amazing Pat McGrath! I don’t know how she comes up with half the creations but I always look in awe when I see them, she has no creative boundaries and everything she creates just seems to work. I’d love to meet her!

What advice would you give to those creatives who would love to get into the Fashion make-up industry?
My advise would be to keep working. Network with the right people and get a good portfolio together. Go to fashion shows and talk to people, get your name out there. Be yourself, don’t try to be someone you’re not because people will see through it. This industry is all about who you know as well as having talent and you just never know who you will bump into. Also, believe in yourself, don’t worry what other make-up artists are doing, keep an eye on who they are working with etc. but don’t try to follow in anybody else’s path, create your own path! If your good at what you do, someone will pick up on it and open a door for you.

If you could have only one item from your make-up bag what would it be?
OMG can I only have one?! I guess it would have to be my gel liner so I can draw my eyebrows on, I do look a little weird without them!

What is your top make-up tip?
My top make-up tip would be primer! Face primer and eye primer, they are a must. I use Urban Decay potion primer. It creates the perfect base for your eyeshadow, helps it adhere to the eye and makes the colour ‘pop’ out. Without it you get that very annoying ‘sweat crease’ in the eye socket, so annoying!

During my recent trip to Stockholm I was lucky enough to stumble upon a beautiful furniture exhibition by designer Jen Hogstedt near to the Centralstation. Each piece of unique furniture has been created by Jen using a combination of materials and a touch of whimsical thought. The beautiful wood and gorgeous fabrics make lovely pieces which are both stylish and engaging. My favourite piece is the armchair which Jen explained has been varnished and finished by herself. The fabrics used to cover the chair are rich in texture, the back of the chair is a re-worked Italian leather jacket and feels great! I love the simplicity of the ideas. Jen explained the forked light celebrates the Swedish saying which translates to ‘forking around’, this is where people have a good chit chat over dinner. Great find!
